The time has come to wear a shirt to bed,

The Dahliahs outside have started turning red,

The wasp population is now all but dead,

But it’s too early to turn the heating on.

The very first day of October is nigh,

To the south the Swallows they do fly,

The washing takes an extra day to dry,

But it’s too early to turn the heating on.

The leaves are beginning to desert the trees,

Turn my collar up at every breeze,

Got a cough, and I’m gonna sneeze,

But it’s too early to turn the heating on.

My duvet requires an extra tog,

I wake up to an early morning fog,

Can’t face going outside with the dog,

But it’s too early to turn the heating on.

From my car I have to scrape the ice,

The tingling in my fingers isn’t nice,

This week snow’s already fallen twice,

But it’s too early to turn the heating on.
